To borrow the words from the song, we wish it could be Christmas everyday. It’s wrong to have favourites but the December issue of GBG magazine is arguably the one that is most fun to put together.
One of the main reasons for this is GBG Cover Star. We received hundreds of votes for the ten finalists but, sadly, there could only be one winner and it is Maxine Fitzgerald who is crowned GBG Cover Star for 2008. I know you will agree when I say that Maxine looks absolutely sensational, a real cover star. There might have only been room for one Cover Star winner but luckily at Bar Cuba there was room for a ‘cast of thousands’ for a fashion shoot with a difference this month. Photographer John De Garis had his hands full but his pictures and the clothes from Red Ape all look great. Well done everybody.
Lots of other festive cheer has made its way into our pages this month but December is not only a time to look forward to Christmas but also a time to look forward to a New Year. Many of our contributors this month have used the opportunity to focus on either the possible excesses of Christmas or the fresh start offered by 2009.
Our ‘Great Buying Guernsey’ campaign is featured again in this issue and will continue through 2009. Last month, I asked you to ‘think local, eat local, sleep local’ and, suitably with regard to the last point in that trilogy, Guernsey Beds and Bedding is one of those to sign-up this month. We’re 100% behind the campaign and urge you to support it too. All those featured have great stories to tell.
We also think that GBG magazine has a great story to tell. We don’t often feel the need to blow our own trumpet but we would like to take this end-of-year opportunity to give ourselves a little plug. We believe that 2008 was when GBG really came of age and proved itself as the island’s number one magazine and we know that thousands of you cannot wait to pick up and read your copy each and every month.
The team at GBG is looking forward to a little break over Christmas but you will be pleased to know that, despite the success of the magazine, we’re not going to rest on our laurels and we will be working hard to make GBG even better in 2009.
Which leads me neatly into extending heartfelt Season’s Greetings to all readers, contributors and advertisers. Have a wonderful Christmas and an even better 2009.
