Great Buying Guernsey is the brainchild of Fletchersports' Terry Ferbrache


| Just a month after its launch, the Great Buying Guernsey campaign is already living up to its name and is a great success. I have been surprised by the amount of people who have spoken to me with very positive views about the campaign. It has proved two things: firstly, lots of people read this magazine and, secondly, lots of people agree with me that there has never been a better time for people to show their support for Guernsey businesses whenever possible. I will not use this column as a platform for a big debate about local ‘zero ten’ taxation or the worldwide ‘credit crunch’ and recession but would stress that. Great Buying Guernsey is for companies that are based, managed and owned locally with profits staying here in Guernsey. All of the companies featured in GBG magazine, last month and this, have got a great story to tell and there are many reasons why we should use them over and above the fact that they are local. Great Buying Guernsey is a proactive initiative and I urge even more companies to get onboard in the coming months. I would like to leave the last word here to somebody else. Asked for his view on the merits of the Great Buying Guernsey campaign in the GBG magazine’s Donkey’s Mouth feature, Castel resident Matt Thomason said we should all make a special effort to buy from local Guernsey businesses and equated the campaign to recycling. “If everyone does a little bit, it can make a big difference”, says Matt. “It’s the same logic as recycling where we all do our bit”.
